Optional:
-1 gold Mizuhiki strand, 36" long
-1 paper doilie, 6"

Traditionally at Chinese New Year gifts are given. Also there are trays of sweets passed around during the celebrations. The adults eat some sweets from the middle and replace them with these red envelopes filled with money for the youngsters! These envelopes can also double for an easy Valentine envelope.

For lots more fascinating information on Chinese New Year (this year happens to be Year 4700, the year of the horse, starting on
February 12th, 2002) please go the this website:

Now, on with the project...

Using the red paper, trace the Presentation envelope. If so desired use the Ahappiness doubled@ image to copy and place on the envelope back, or on the inside, if desired. Make sure that the bill that you use is nice and crisp. Using the gold Mizuhiki, find the center of the strand (at 18") and wrap the envelope around the center, short-ways. It should go around twice completely and then have two long ends. Tie the ends off in a square knot or any decorative knot or bow that suits you.

If you=d like to use this for Valentine=s day to present your love with something that shows your affection, using the doilie apply the glue (lightly) or the spray adhesive to apply the doilie to the envelope. Flatten the envelope and center the doilie when applying. Then, working from the center outward, press the doilie onto the envelope. Let dry. After inserting your special message, close the envelope and tie your red ribbon around it for that extra special touch!
