THE CLAM SHELL KNOT

This is a basic knot.
Strand length: 12" to 18".

Don’t forget to condition the strands first by running them thru your fingers 3-4 times.

1) Find the center of the strand and make a loop. Pinch the loop with the thumb and index finger of your left hand.
2) Make another loop and make sure that they overlap in the center. Note how the loops cross. The second loop lays on top of the first loop.
3)You will have a long "leg" (underneath) and a short "leg" (on top). Bring the end that is underneath outside (toward your fingertips) and around over the top of the strand that is on top. Bring the same end through the "O" that is made by your thumb and forefinger and weave it U-O-U-O thru the loops.
Center the knot on the strand. This is the basis of your knot!

Add strands in an outward direction (on top of the last), ONE BY ONE. Don’t try to add them all at once. As you add them, the strands will appear to get shorter. This is because the strands are going around an enlarging knot. As the strands get added your knot will stabilize and get much easier to work with. And as always...

Adjust, adjust, adjust!
