| I-glasses Case©
A handy gift for those who use "Specs". Attractive and sturdy, this case is simple to put together.
Materials needed: Bubble template from Draggin' Ink2 pieces contrasting fabric, each piece 10"X 10" Pellon Wonder-Under fusing material or other fusible web, 1/4 yard, or see Paperfusing Instructions if using paper. Heavy-duty cardstock, 1 piece, 8 2" X 11"
Trace the bubble pattern on the cardstock. The standard bubble template should be long enough to accommodate many glasses but if not, simply lengthen the pattern by sliding the template side to side as needed and mark the edge there. On one side of the paper in pencil lightly mark a line 2" away from the edge of the seam (straight side). On the opposite side of the paper and 2" away from the other straight side mark another line. This is the area were the two edges of the paper and fabric will meet and be glued (See above illustration). Using the fusible web, or the paperfusing method, fuse the fabric to the cardstock, placing the edge of the fusing material at the mark, leaving the 2" flap of fabric free. After applying the fabric, let the piece cool and re-mark the pattern if necessary. Cut the pattern out and run a very thin line of glue along the edge to prevent the fabric from fraying. After the glue dries, score the piece according to the instructions on the template. Glue together according to the directions on the template letting the free flaps of fabric at the seam slip over the opposite edge of the seam. Glue these down, starting at the inside, working out, smoothing the fabric as you go. Use the toothpick for applying glue if you can=t reach it with the glue bottle. Paperclip the seam if necessary until the glue sets. On one end of the bubble, fold the flaps in, applying glue to permanently close one end. Fold the ribbon in half and glue both ends to the inside flap on the other end. Close by folding in the flap with the ribbon first, but letting the ribbon hang to the outside. To open simply pull on the ribbon.Embellish the case with ribbons, fake jewels, puff paints, beads, cording or whatever strikes your fancy. © 1999 Draggin' Ink, All Rights Reserved |
