Quick and Easy
Mizuhiki Jewelry

It=s never too late to start having fun
with these Japanese cords!

Materials needed:
-three (3) sets of two 36" strands of Mizuhiki, coordinating colors
-foam mounting tape or carpet tape
Jewelry findings
:-barrettes, large faux jewels, crimp coil ends,
jump rings, 2" pin backs, spring closures
-glue
-scissors
-two strong clips

First, measure around your wrist. Add 1 inch. Combine that length with the length of the barrette. This is how much length of braided Mizuhiki you will need to make one barrette and one bracelet.
Example: Wrist =7 2" + 1" + 2" barrette length =10 2" total braid length needed.

To braid the Mizuhiki: first soften the Mizuhiki by running the strands thru your fingers three or four times.

Grouping the colors together, clip the ends together using one of the strong clips. Now start to braid the strands like you would braid hair, keeping the colors together and the strands flat. After braiding, coat the back of the braid with glue. Let dry. Note: Don=t get the Mizuhiki wet...it doesn't=t like water.

For the barrettes: Lay down some foam mounting tape or carpet tape along the flat part of the bar. Depending on the look you want, lay the Mizuhiki down in straight bands of color or a section of braided Mizuhiki. Trim.

For the bracelet: Measure the proper length of braid for your wrist plus 1 inch. Cut. Put a drop of glue in each of the crimp coil ends. Insert the strands into the ends and push all the way into each end. Let dry. Add jump rings and spring closures.

For the Star burst Pin:

Lay down a layer of foam mounting tape or carpet tape on the back of the large faux jewel. Cut short lengths (1" or shorter) of Mizuhiki, making sure they don=t get kinked or bent. Use all your colors of strands. Press the lengths into the tape on the back of the jewel. Place as many as looks good to you. Glue a pin back to the back of the jewel.
